මෙරට දේශපාලන ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ වඩාත් කතාබහට ලක්වුණු චරිතයක් වූ අභාවප්‍රාප්ත වූ හිටපු අමාත්‍ය මංගල සමරවීර මහතාගේ නික්මයෑම වෙනුවෙන් දේශපාලකයින් මෙන්ම විදෙස් රාජතාන්ත්‍රිකයින්, ක්‍රීඩකයින් රැසක් ශෝක සටහන් තබා තිබෙනවා.
සිය ෆේස්බුක් පිටුව ඔස්සේ සටහනක් තබමින් ජනාධිපති ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මහතා සඳහන් කර ඇත්තේ, ලාංකීය දේශපාලන ගමන්මගෙහි විශාල පරිවර්ථනයන් මෙන් ම අරගලයන් දියත් කරමින් ලාංකීය ජනතාවට අමිල මෙහෙවරක් ඉටුකිරීමට සක්‍රීයව දායක වූ කෘතහස්ත දේශපාලනඥයකු වන එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂ හිටපු අමාත්‍ය සහ හිටපු පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී මංගල සමරවීර මැතිතුමාගේ හදිසි වියෝව සැලවීමෙන් තමන් ඉතා සංවේගයට පත්වූ බවය.
කොවිඩ් -19 වෛරසය ආසාදනයවීම හේතුවෙන් කොළඹ පෞද්ගලික රෝහලක ප්‍රතිකාර ලබමින් සිටි මංගල සමරවීර මහතා අද උදෑසන අභාවප්‍රාප්ත විය.
1956 අප්‍රේල් 21 වැනිදා උපත ලැබූ මංගල පින්සිරි සමරවීර මහතා මෙරට දේශපාලනයේ වඩාත් ජනප්‍රිය චරිතයකි.
කොළඹ රාජකීය විද්‍යාලයේ ආදි සිසුවෙකු වූ ඔහු ශ්‍රී ලංකා නිදහස් පක්ෂයේ මාතර දිස්ත්‍රික් සංවිධායකවරයා ලෙස 1983 වසරේ දේශපාලනයට පිවිසෙන්නේ අර්බුදකාරී වාතාවරණයක් තුළ ශ්‍රී ලංකා නිදහස් පක්ෂය ශක්තිමත් කිරීමේ අඩිතාලම වෙමින්ය. 1989 මහ මැතිවරණයේදී මාතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයෙන් පළමු වරට ඔහු පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට තේරී පත්විය.
17 වසරක එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂ පාලනය බිඳ හෙළමින් 1994 වසරේදී මෙරට සිදුවූ බල පෙරළියේ පුරෝගාමියෙකු වූ සමරවීර මහතා එම ආණ්ඩුවේ තැපැල් හා විදුලි සංදේශ ඇමති ධුරය ඇතුළු වගකිම් රැසක් හොබවනු ලැබීය.
අනතුරුව මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ ආණ්ඩුවේද කැබිනට් අමාත්‍යවරයෙකු වූ ඔහු 2007 වසරේ ඉන් ඉවත් කෙරුණු පසු එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂයට එක්වූයේ සිය දේශපාලන ගමන්මග වෙනස් කරමිනි.
අවසන් වරට සමරවීර මහතා යහපාලන ආණ්ඩුවේ විදේශ කටයුතු, මුදල් යන අමාත්‍යධුරවල කටයුතු කළ අතර මුදල් ඇමතිවරයා ලෙස ඔහු ඉදිරිපත් කළ ඉන්ධන මිල සූත්‍රයට ද සමාජයේ දැඩි අවධානයක් යොමුවිය.
සමරවීර මහතා රට තුළ කතාබහට ලක්වූ චරිතයක් වන්නේ විවිධ ආන්දෝලනාත්මක අදහස් පළකිරීම හේතුවෙනි.
අවසන් වරට 2020 මහ මැතිවරණයේදී සමගි ජනබලවේගයෙන් නාම යෝජනා ද ලබා දී තිබූ ඔහු හිටි හැටියේ තරග බිමෙන් ඉවත් වන්නේ මෙරට ඡන්දදායකයා තුළ කුකුසක් මතු කරමිනි.

Mr. Mangala Samaraweera was an ardent fan of sports and I remember talking to him on the flight back home, after winning the World Cup in 1996. He was a very kind & generous person.
