Fitness industry is booming in Sri Lanka and it is estimated that closer to 1000 gyms and fitness classes are operating within Sri Lanka.

With so many options and with many facilities joining a gym can be quite the daunting task but don’t be put off. NewsWire Mag team listed 7 things everyone should know before getting started.

01 Pick the right Gym for you – Not the Brand

Luxury gyms and super facility filled gyms are boomed in Colombo, if your objective is to lose weight or gain weight check what the gym offers for you, not for your partner/ friend.

If you are satisfied with the options the gym offers you pick that gym, if you’re not going to do heavy deadlifts and Rope climbing don’t pick the gym which has all those just for the sake of having those.

Also, don’t pick the gym which has the best washroom in the town; you are not going to a hotel, it’s a gym so it will be smelly and nasty. (But most gyms in Colombo has decent washrooms)

02. Location … Location and Location

Find the perfect gym which suits your routine locations, ideally the gym should be closer to your home or your workplace.

Don’t try to go for the branded gym or to the gym your friend got pumped up which is 15KM away from your daily destinations. If you live in Wattala and your office is in Townhall don’t pick a gym in Nugegoda.

By picking the closest locations to your home or workplace you will save a lot of travel time and you could concentrate more on lifting.

03. Pick the time Slot

If you Sleepaholic or a night junky don’t try to be motivated and try to work out at 5AM, trust me it won’t work, even if it works it will be only for couple of weeks. So, pick the time which suits you the best.

Colombo’s most gyms start early and end late hence the time you pick most gyms should be able to accommodate, but don’t switch timings whereas on Monday you will try to work out in the morning and the next day in the night, your body will get used to the timings you start working out and respond accordingly.
